We often feel helpless and lack benchmarks and information regarding the specific nature of our hair and the care needed to preserve its character, whether it's curly, coily, or kinky.
As kinky hair is much drier than even the "driest" Caucasian hair, it's important not to damage it during basic care. It's fragile hair that deserves special attention, right from the "shampoo" stage.
Based on this observation, 'NO POO' (a contraction of "no shampoo") was born. Lorraine Massey, a New York hairdresser, recommends using conditioner as shampoo. In fact, detanglers also contain cleansing ingredients, and these are much gentler than any so-called mild shampoo. The result is hair gently washed with ingredients.
Beware, dry hair doesn't need to be washed too often; so space out your no-poo sessions. Remember to moisturize your hair regularly according to its needs. This essential step compensates for the absence of protective sebum along the hair fiber. Shea butter and monoi oil seem perfectly suited.
To purify your scalp, it is advisable to exfoliate it from time to time to free the pores and thus promote growth. To do this, add cane sugar to your conditioner for the last application and massage with your fingertips.
