Nail care is too often neglected in favor of hand care, which focuses on moisturizing creams, at best preceded by an exfoliation. Yet it is just as important to take care of your nails naturally, because they too are put to the test and reflect our general health. If they are soft, brittle, or stained, they indicate our possible deficiencies... To have beautiful hands, there's nothing like healthy and well-groomed nails!
Whatever the season and its aggravating factors, several elements can weaken our nails: household chores, excessive use of nail polish and/or remover. Our nails take a hit, and weakened, they break or split.
Here are some grandmother's remedies and 4 DIY recipes for natural nail care. To optimize the care, prefer organic vegetable oils and butters!
Lemon-based oil bath
Take a bowl large enough for your hands to fit comfortably inside. Pour the juice of half a lemon and 5 tablespoons of argan oil into the bowl. Mix the ingredients well, then immerse your hands in this mixture for about 15 minutes.
Then wash your hands with lukewarm water and dry them thoroughly. This treatment will invigorate and strengthen your nails and at the same time make the skin of your hands much softer!
This treatment is recommended once a week if you want to achieve good results fairly quickly.
Garlic-based nail strengthening cream
Take a few cloves of garlic and blend them until you get a puree. Add a little olive oil to the puree. Mix well to make the cream more homogeneous. This preparation acts as a strengthening cream. The sulfur in the garlic tones the nail and accelerates its regrowth. The cream should therefore be used from time to time if you want to have strong and well-hydrated nails.
During application, gently massage so that the product works well. But be careful not to overdo it if you want to maintain the flexibility of your nails.
Making your nails more resistant
Very simple solutions exist to make nails more resistant:
1. Massage your fingers with olive oil
2. Before going to bed, rub garlic or onion on your nails
3. Use a nail hardener instead of your usual nail polish. Alternatively, apply a base coat containing active strengthening and nourishing agents
Lemon nail hardener
For this recipe you will need:
- 1 teaspoon of apple cider vinegar
- the juice of 1/4 lemon
- 10 drops of lemon essential oil
Mix all the ingredients. Massage your nails carefully with this mixture. After 4 to 6 weeks, you will notice that their condition has improved.
Nourishing nail oil
Ingredients for natural nail care:
- 30 ml sweet almond oil
- 2 tsp macadamia oil
- 15 drops of lemon essential oil
- 4 drops of sandalwood essential oil
- 1/4 tsp vitamin E oil
