Wax fabric dresses millions of Africans, who sell or buy it, often from European, Asian, or American producers. But where does this wax-dyed fabric come from, whose quality has ensured its unwavering popularity for over a century? How did it conquer Africa? A deep dive into its fibers.
Over a century of love. African men and women never tire of the famous wax fabric. The vibrant colors and quality of this fabric have given it a prosperous life, as well as to most of its producers. These cotton pieces, printed on both sides using a wax system, have conquered the entire continent and are available in several European countries as well as in parts of the United States. That, in short, is wax fabric today. But what about its origins?
But today, wax fabric is more than just that, and stylists and designers are incorporating it into their creations, crafting unique designs that are sometimes urban, glamorous, or quirky, where wax fabric rubs shoulders with more neutral, modern fabrics! One thing is certain: wax fabric is currently trendy, and even though it has seen all sorts of designs for years, today, it is being reinvented in every way imaginable, to our great delight!
