Relaxing: a vast debate that often raises controversy
For those of us who advocate for natural black beauty, avoiding the question is not the solution. We had already addressed it during the presentation of Juliette Sméralda's book. Today, we want to approach the subject concretely: What does relaxing involve? What are the consequences for our hair? Find our detailed report on Noireônaturel.com.
For us at Noireônaturel, it seems obvious that relaxing hair two to three times a year does not have the same impact on our hair capital; but what about when we relax our hair every month and a half? And the money spent: 1 for the relaxing itself and 2 for the treatments supposed to repair the damage caused by the alteration of the hair's initial structure. It's a vicious cycle! And we strongly object to certain detractors who would say that wearing natural hair is not serious.
For us, it's clear that deciding to understand the specificities of one's hair, whether curly or kinky, accepting this specificity, and understanding how to care for and maintain it to finally accept oneself, to reveal oneself, will inevitably lead to self-esteem, to an inner beauty that will reveal itself outwardly!
This will simply lead to being oneself! And if being different, claiming it, being proud of it: it's being oneself with one's twists, one's curls, one's locs, and one's afro, where's the problem?
Nota Bene: And if you "really" want to sport a different style with "straight" hair and you have relatively soft or mixed-race hair, why not opt for a blow-dry at a good hairdresser who will protect your hair from the heat of the hairdryer or even a expertly done weave. The advantage of these two options is that they do not alter the very structure of your hair and thus allow you to change your look as you wish.
Please do not hesitate to leave us your reactions.
