The Indian washing nut is a reality! Discover it.

In
India and Nepal, the washing nut (from the Sapindus Mukorossi tree) has been used for centuries as an everyday laundry product. Indian women also used the shells of this washing nut to wash their hair. They knew the secret to making a powder obtained by mixing the washing nut shell with aromatic plants. Women thus made a soap that they used for Indian nuts for dishes and household cleaning. Jewelers also use it to make jewelry shine.
The Indian washing nut has always been used to wash traditional silk, cotton, or wool fabrics, delicate and very colorful, without wearing them out or discoloring them.

The Sapindus Mukorossi is a soap tree that grows easily in poor soil; in forests, along roadsides, and even in cities. It can combat soil erosion by occupying arid regions while providing a sustainable and fair income for local populations: a significant asset, particularly in the poor regions of the Himalayas!

This washing nut tree can grow up to 15 meters high. It begins to bear fruit after about ten years and is productive for about ninety years.

Harvesting is annual between November and January. The ripe washing nut is golden and sticky due to its high content of saponins. Sapindus Mukorossi produces this sticky substance to protect itself against harmful organisms. These precious saponins are found in the shell of washing nuts and act as a detergent when in contact with water.

After harvesting, the nuts are dried, cleaned, sorted, and decorticated in Daniyalpur. The shell halves are immediately packaged and sealed to protect them from moisture.

The quality of the washing nut depends on:

- harvesting at the right time
- drying in the shade, gently and long enough
- cleaning the nuts and
- very rigorous selective sorting.

These steps are crucial to be able to offer a consistent and high-quality nut throughout the seasons. Among the multitude of washing nuts marketed, there are enormous and very variable quality differences.

The nut used in its shell is therefore a detergent that requires no industrial processing or production!
