Visuel-Description

Start the year beautifully by decluttering your cosmetics. You'll clear out old items, avoid applying expired products, and make good resolutions:

BUY LESS BUT BETTER!

Shelf life: focus!

How long do these last:
- A mascara: 3 to 4 months
- A liquid eyeliner: 3 to 4 months
- An eye pencil: about 1 year
- A lipstick or a gloss: about 1 year
Cosmetic product lifespan
The pre-opening expiry date must only be indicated on cosmetic product labels if the durability is less than 30 months (cf. article R.5131-4 of the French Public Health Code). If there is no date, it means the cosmetic product lasts more than 30 months. In this case, there is a period of time after opening indicated by the symbol of an open jar.
- A lip liner: about 1 year
- A liquid or cream foundation in a tube or pump: about 1 year
- A liquid or cream foundation in a jar or compact: 6 to 10 months
- A powder product (eyeshadow, blush, etc.): 1 to 3 years
- A nail polish: about 1 year
- A moisturizer in a tube or pump: about 1 year
- A moisturizer in a jar: 6 to 10 months
- A self-tanner: about 6 months
- A sunscreen or a moisturizer with SPF: maximum 1 year

Organic or conventional cosmetics: same shelf life

Generally, the shelf life of conventional cosmetics ranges from 6 to 24 months, and 6 to 12 months for organic cosmetics, depending on the type of product (makeup, skincare, etc.). However, it is important to note that a product should, in any case, be replaced regularly for hygiene reasons.
Indeed, whether your moisturizer is organic or not, it should be replaced approximately every 6 to 8 months. Foundations, mascaras, and lipsticks, on the other hand, should be changed annually for the well-being of your skin.
Only nail polishes and perfumes benefit from an extended period of up to 2 years before needing replacement. So, don't hesitate to choose organic skincare when considering shelf life!
