The oil bath: the best ally for curly hair

An oil bath consists of applying a natural vegetable oil to your hair. This will deeply nourish it and provide suppleness, shine, and health!

Opt for labeled organic and cold-pressed oils. A little tip: buy them from the food section for an excellent quality-to-price ratio.

Enjoy a quiet moment or the weekend to take care of yourself. Apply a hair oil bath to your hair for deep conditioning.

Why do a hair oil bath?

Textured hair (frizzy, curly, coily) has an increased need for nourishment and hydration because it naturally has a greater deficiency in water (hydration) and sebum (nourishment).

How to apply your hair oil?

The oil bath can be applied either:

  • after shampooing (on towel-dried hair) if you have very thick or coarse, frizzy to coily hair, or as a pre-poo if you have relaxed, fine, wavy to curly hair!

  • the day before your shampoo: keeping it overnight and shampooing the next day is ideal.
Applying your oil bath to wet hair promotes its penetration.

What is the ideal frequency?

You can do this pre-poo treatment once a week to protect and deeply nourish your hair. Depending on the health of your hair, you can also apply a few drops of oil to your ends at bedtime or to your lengths if they are dry.

We also recommend a deep oil bath to apply to your towel-dried hair after your shampoo as a hair mask. Especially in summer, if you swim, to repair damage caused by chlorine, sea salt, or prolonged sun exposure. This advice is also valid in winter to combat the damaging effects of cold and wind.

The ideal oils to nourish and enhance your curls

For fine hair: consider light oils such as jojoba, sunflower, olive, and sesame.

For curly, frizzy, or coily hair: prefer denser oils like castor oil, coconut oil, or shea butter.

You can create a mixture of oils to which you can add essential oils depending on your specific needs. Tea tree essential oil is ideal if you have dandruff. Rosemary and ylang-ylang essential oils purify your scalp and promote hair growth.

Beauty tip: you can also apply it to your body. And also as a serum for your face, to be applied at night under your night cream, or as a beard treatment if you have a bearded man at home. That's also the beauty of Zero Waste: one product = multiple beauty and pleasure uses.

Daily hair care

Daily, it is important to rehydrate the hair in the morning during styling with a mist. You can add oil or even a few dollops of cowash to it. This will nourish the hair fiber and reshape the curls.

In addition to hair oil baths, make sure to eat well (prioritize consuming local organic vegetables), nuts (almonds, walnuts, and hazelnuts, fatty fish like mackerel, tuna, or salmon). And don't forget to drink plenty of water to hydrate from within!
