Given the difficulty of maintaining their hair, many men opt for shaving, either with a razor or with a depilatory cream.
This trend has multiplied the number of scalp folliculitis and nuchal keloidal acne. The frizzy and curly hair continuously traumatizes the skin, creating irritation and local infection (folliculitis) which, in turn, will hinder hair growth, perpetuate the lesions, and make them more inflammatory and fibrous (nodules).
As long as the lesions are only inflammatory, local and oral antibiotic treatment can resolve them. When scars are already present, cold therapy (cryotherapy), or even surgery or laser treatment, will be attempted.

Minor Ailments

Barber's itch (folliculitis barbae):
After shaving, hair regrowth can irritate the skin, causing inflammation and infection in the skin, which in turn will make proper hair regrowth difficult.

How to shave?

Generally, shaving foams and aftershaves do not yield very convincing results. Above all, it is preferable not to try to shave too closely. Electric shaving, which is less irritating than a manual razor, can be the solution. For aftershave, gentle exfoliating creams containing fruit acids (AHAs) will facilitate hair regrowth without ingrown hairs and help correct the phenomenon.
Prevention relies on stopping shaving the nape of the neck.

Men's Hygiene

Cleanse the face
Often, the product used is the same as for showering; choose a less aggressive product (dermatological bar or syndet) rather than a soap that will further irritate your skin. If your face has problems with folliculitis or small breakouts of pimples, use specific cleansing gels for acne-prone skin. The 2-in-1 body and hair products are easy to use.

Shaving
For 96% of you, this gesture is the basis of your daily care. This mandatory moment is not necessarily experienced as a moment of pleasure. Shaving foams, gels, and creams are now enriched with moisturizing, soothing, and antiseptic active ingredients (to prevent the risk of infection following cuts) to avoid damaging the hydrolipidic film.
Shaving can also induce breakouts of pimples. Find our recipe for shaving gel to make yourself or have your beloved make it for you.

Care creams
They are not yet part of men's systematic daily routines, and that's a shame. Even if your skin is oilier than women's, it is often stripped of lipids by shaving and therefore needs to be moisturized. The products that are most used are actually cosmetic treatments.

Sun creams
Don't forget that the sun is the number one factor in skin aging. During outdoor activities, especially sports, remember to protect yourself from the sun with sun products. Sprays, which are easy to use, are now available with high protection factors. Otherwise, opt for a wide-brimmed hat! See article "Black Skin and Sun."
